The Timber Lane Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) is an incredible group of volunteers dedicated to supporting the needs of Timber Lane teachers, staff, and students. Joining the PTA comes with absolutely no obligation to volunteer or attend meetings.

We're looking for room parents
Teachers really are superheroes. But even superheroes need a sidekick. Room parents can make a big difference in helping teachers find a bit of breathing room, and ensure the parent-classroom relationship is a strong one. Upcoming school board meetings
All meetings are broadcast live on Channel 99 (Verizon channel 11) and on the FCPS website. Meetings are also recorded for future viewing and posted to the FCPS YouTube channel. Visit the community participation webpage to sign up to speak at regular meetings or public hearings.

Fall Full-Time AAP Referral Window for Students New to FCPS Closes on October 15
The Advanced Academic Program (AAP) fall referral window is only for students in Grades 3 to 8 who are new to FCPS since January 1, 2026. Parents and guardians who would like their student to be considered for Full-Time AAP services must submit the Full-Time AAP Referral Form to Katie Hardy, Advanced Academic Resource Teacher, at khhardy@fcps.edu by Thursday, October 15. Late referrals will not be accepted.
For students who are not new to FCPS, the spring Full-Time AAP identification window is open to students in Grades 2 to 7. Families interested in referring their student for consideration during the spring window must submit a referral by Tuesday, December 15.

GENERAL SCHOOL FAQs
How do I find information about weather-related school closures?
FCPS’ website is generally the first place to find out about emergency weather closings. Other communication channels will be used as quickly as possible including email, text, social media, and news stations. Learn more about how schedule changes are communicated.
What time does school start?
School doors open at 8:30am and the first bell rings at 8:40am. Classes officially begin at 8:50am. If you arrive to school after 8:50am you should plan to enter through Door 1 and sign in at the front desk.
What door do students who walk to school use?
Pre-K students are required to be walked to Door 2 and handed off to a Pre-K staff member. Kindergartens are required to be walked to Door 3 (Cafeteria Door) and handed off to a Kindergarten staff member. All other students who walk to school (grades 1st through 6th) should enter the school through Door 2. You can use this visual as a reference for both walkers and kiss-and-ride entry/exit points.
My student plans to buy lunch, how do I manage meal payments?
If your student needs to purchase lunch, you'll need a MySchoolBucks account. From your account you can add and manage funds for all your children, whether through a one-time payment or an auto-pay solution.
Can I visit my student for lunch?
Family members may visit during their child’s assigned lunch period and are asked to review and follow the Lunch Family Visitor Expectations. During visits, families should follow staff directions and cafeteria expectations, remain with their child, and only share outside food or drinks with their own child due to allergy concerns. Visitors must sign in and out at the front office, wear a visitor badge, model respectful behavior, respect student privacy by not photographing or recording other students, and allow their child to return to class independently through the normal dismissal process. To keep lunch focused on family time, please schedule conversations about academic progress or school concerns with your child’s teacher or appropriate staff member outside of lunchtime.

If I join the PTA, do I have to volunteer my time?
Volunteering is not required! You can join and pay dues simply to support our activities. Volunteering isn't required to be a part of the PTA. And if you want to volunteer, but aren't a dues-paying PTA member, that's okay too!

If I join the PTA, do I have to go to PTA meetings?
Meetings are 100% optional! We love when parents join us at PTA meetings. It's a great way to learn about what's happening at school, hear from teachers and other guest speakers, learn about volunteer opportunities, and to ask any questions. However, you are not required to go to meetings, even if you join the PTA.
